The Pond and the Temple of Asclepius are two distinctive elements located within the park of Villa Borghese in Rome. Villa Borghese is a large public park that extends over approximately 80 hectares in the city center and is one of the most popular leisure spots for residents and tourists.

The lake

This is a man-made body of water located in the northeast part of the park. It is surrounded by a scenic promenade, allowing people to stroll along the banks and enjoy the water views. In the lake it is possible to rent small rowing boats for a short excursion on the water. This space is ideal for a relaxing break and offers a serene environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The Temple of Aesculapius

This temple is a neoclassical structure located on an artificial island in the middle of the Pond. Aesculapius is the Roman god of medicine and healing, equivalent to the Greek god Asclepius. The temple is dedicated to him and was designed by the architect Antonio Asprucci in the 18th century. The structure features a large colonnade and a statue of the god Aesculapius holding a serpent, a symbol associated with medicine.

Both the lake and the Temple of Asclepius contribute to creating a peaceful and evocative atmosphere within the park of Villa Borghese. The park itself is a popular destination for nature lovers, for those who want to take a walk, jog or simply relax outdoors. In addition to these elements, Villa Borghese is also home to some of Rome’s main cultural attractions, including museums, art galleries and theaters.
